NewsAugust 2009 - New Travelhome Models In exciting news for Travelhome, we are going to be introducing 4 new models in the near future, as well as a special Travelhome tow vehicle that will only be available to Travelhome owners. The first new model is the Macquarie 23. Using some new space saving ideas, the Macquarie 23 has everything you need on the road in a smart 23 foot package. It will also be available at a very competitive price, which when coupled with a cheaper tow vehicle such as a Holden Crewman or Ford Falcon Ute, becomes a very attractive package. The second new model is a new variation of the Macquarie 25 with a U shaped lounge. This variation, by having a slightly different layout allows you to have all the features of the Classic Macquarie 25 but with a bit of extra space which allows room for extra kitchen bench space and an optional washing machine. The third new model is the Travelhome Sports. This is a Travelhome that uses the new innovations from the Macquarie 23 to allow for a large 9' storage area in the back. This model is ideal for those who want to take their toys on the road, or those who want to run their business while travelling, or those who want wheelchair access, in fact the possibilities are endless. The 2009 Brisbane show was a huge success for Travelhome as it was the first chance for visitors to inspect the new 29ft Macquarie models. April 2009 - Travelhome Ball & Coupling Hitch Recently there have been concerns raised about the safety of single oscillatory hitches as used by many 5th Wheelers in Australia. There have been over 130 reported incidents of damage to fifth wheelers and their tow vehicles, prompting an article by Collyn Rivers in the April 2009 issue of the Wanderer (Click here to see the full article). The basic problem with the "single oscillatory hitches" is that they have limited side to side movement, unlike the Travelhome ball and coupling hitch which has unrestricted movement in all directions. TRAVELHOME Designer Geoff Dutch was invited to provide comment on the matter, and his comments on the safety of the hitch used by Travelhome are repeated below: As a director of Travelhome (fifth wheel RV manufacturers) I am concerned that owners may be confused by this matter. I comment therefore from my own local industry perspective. I fully appreciate the concerns raised by the RVMAA, Michaela Fogarty, Collyn Rivers and others (including many confused potential buyers). I am also aware that Mr Rivers has presented a Technical Report to the various regulatory and other bodies involved, seeking urgent action. I am concerned however that many owners may relate this matter to fifth wheeler hitches in general and that the entire RV market should be provided with a clear understanding that at least some local manufacturers of fifth wheelers use hitch assemblies and/or chassis structures that are not of the single oscillatory type that Mr Rivers and others are questioning. TRAVELHOME decided that the commonly used imported US made fifth wheeler TURNTABLE style hitch is unsuited for use on the Travelhome due not only to its bulk but because of restricted lateral movement (on some versions) and that we believe is unsuitable for Australian road conditions. TRAVELHOME accordingly designs and manufactures its own BALL & SOCKET COUPLING which it has tested for compliance with ADR 62/01 – [Mechanical Connections Between Vehicles] the tests of the Travelhome coupling show that the coupling would now exceed the new ADR/ 62.02 minimum coupling strength requirements by at least 70%. I trust that the above provides a clear understanding that Travelhome Pty. Ltd. takes its reputation in the industry, and the safety of the road using public, very seriously. Geoff Dutch Director Travelhome Pty. Ltd.
