Tow Hitches

Travelhome fifth wheelers utilise a gooseneck "ball and coupling" of it's own design which complies with ADR 62-01. The gooseneck uses a heavy duty 59mm (2-5/16") tow ball which is mounted above the rear axle of the selected tow vehicle.

There are three types of hitch available, all of which have been tested and comply with ADR 62-01. The first type (shown to the right) is a sliding hitch suitable for dual cab and extra cab vehicles when fitted with standard utility "tub". This hitch can slide rearwards to allow better clearance in tight turning situations. It must be returned to the towing position after completing tight turns.

The second hitch is usually mounted into single cab utes but does not slide due to adequate clearance between the cab and the Travelhome. Both of these hitches have "raised" tow-balls to provide clearance under the "nose" of the Travelhome and to provide  level towing, and are easily detached from the ute by removing 4 locating pins which leaves the tray available for normal use. Both of these hitches weigh approximately 25 kg.

The third hitch (shown below) is a "drop-away" or flush mounted 59mm (2- 5/16") ball which can be raised for towing and "hidden" when not in use. This hitch is only suited for flat top tray vehicles and the tray height from ground must be in the range of 900mm to 1100mm. This hitch is also available with a fixed towball (shown bottom right).

The factory produces hitch kits to suit most current and recent model single, extra and dual-cab utilities (for type one and two hitches)
and fitting can be arranged by the factory or by your local Travelhome dealer. A typical hitch kit includes the supply of all brackets for fitting of the hitchand tow ball, brake wiring, brake control module, twin charge system for van batteries and 12 volt brakeaway brakes monitoring. Tow vehicles fitted with flat top trays usually require individually made mounting systems to suit various types of trays. The Travelhome factory can also design and fit special trays which incorporate the drop-down hitch.
